The Big Crab is a two metre high crab, located in the town of Miriam Vale on top of the Shell Service Station and Restaurant. The crab was created in 1979 by the owner at the time wanting to promote his crab sandwiches. Miriam Vale is approximately 66 kilometres south of Gladstone and the Bruce Highway runs straight though.

The annual 1770 Art show is held each May in Agnes Water, Central Coast Queensland. The show covers the categories of Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Photography, Textile, Secondary and Primary School. With a prize pool of more the AUD7000 it is one of the premier regional Art Shows. Each year the Art Show works closely with Queensland Art and the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) and the art show is proud to have a curator from QA/GOMA as the guest judge. 2017 Art Show dates are: Opening night/Award Night Wednesday May 17. Many of the 60,000 Australians who died in WWI were young men. They never had the chance to grow old, hence their depiction in Queensland's favoured soldier statues, like the one in Miriam Vale. The Miriam Vale war memorial was unveiled on 14 December 1921. Public subscription had raised £238 for the monument, one of many created by Brisbane firm AL Petrie and Son. While the statue itself is replicated across the state, the ornate sandstone pedestal on which it stands, complete with gabled cornice and a moulded wreath, is a one-off. The front marble plate bears a leaded inscription, naming 13 men from the district who died at war. Such honour rolls provide unique insight into how small communities rallied to the Empire's cause and were affected as a result. The names of eight locals who died on active service in WWII have been added. Miriam Vale's war memorial faces the morning light and railway station at the southern end of the town. ...

Miriam Vale is located on the Bruce Highway 475 kilometres north of Brisbane, with the main North South rail line passing through the town.
