Brisbane Aboriginal Cultural Walking Tour

37246 - Brisbane QLD 4001

Explore Brisbane with local Aboriginal tour guides and walk with your small group of no more than 10 participants in the footsteps of their ancestors through the heart of Meeanjin (Brisbane City).

You are invited to experience a 3 hour walking tour, with a local Aboriginal guide, around some of Brisbane's major inner precincts that highlight  fascinating elements of Brisbane's Aboriginal history and current perspectives along the Brisbane River. This tour will feature public art by Aboriginal artists (including pieces from BlackCard Co-Founder Aunt Lilla Watson).

Your tour really emphasises the dynamic arts practices from the oldest continuing living culture in world history. Visit outdoor locations, local galleries and venues across Brisbane's Cultural Centre Precinct to explore the scope of Aboriginal Art that exists in Australia's New World City....a city with an ancient past.

You will experience Aboriginal art from various regions across Queensland and Australia....as well as a range of art forms and mediums. Australian Aboriginal art is the oldest ongoing tradition of art in the world. Did you know....Aboriginal painting represents 99% of the timeline of Australian painting. Aboriginal people in Australia are now recognised as the largest producers of Art per capita. Over 50% of Australian artist are Indigenous and this coming from a group comprising only 3% of the total population.

You will be welcomed by the sound of the Didgeridoo, an ancient instrument which will captivate you and set the scene of a rich cultural experience.

"As with imagemaking, Aboriginal music also unites consciousness with the invisible laws and energy patterns of nature. Aboriginal art is perhaps most accurately described as a method for gaining knowledge of nature and its invisible Dreaming". An example is the playing of the didjeridoo, a long wooden flute, perhaps the oldest musical instrument on earth.

South Brisbane Cemetery Ghost Tour

37181 - Brisbane QLD 4001

One of Australia’s most haunted sites, the second largest cemetery in Queensland hides many terrible tales.

The iron fence and entrance gates of South Brisbane Cemetery – more commonly known as Dutton Park Cemetery – is passed by thousands of drivers every day, though few know who lies there. This is one of the earliest burial grounds in the state – the first recorded burial was in 1870.

Covering forty-six acres, the cemetery stretches down a steep hill to the Cemetery Reach of the Brisbane River. Hidden among old trees are thousands of gravestones and memorials. Hundreds more are missing – the result of flood, vandalism & time. Though almost 100,000 souls lie at rest here… forty-two do not.

Meet your ghost tour guide at the beautiful front gates of South Brisbane Cemetery, just across the road from the Fish Kitchen.

Once issued with a torch, you shall step inside the this old cemetery. To add to the experience of the tour, torches are switched off during the stories, plunging you into the atmospheric darkness of the cemetery.

As you walk through the darkened pathways and lawns  your guide will share stories of the ghosts that haunt the cemetery and those who encountered them. Some stories are funny and some are downright chilling - all of them interesting.

Expect a leisurely walk over 2 hours, with frequent stops for photo opportunities and dramatic story telling. Please be aware there are some reasonably steep hills to walk up during the tour. After an eerie evening of ghost stories and possibly some sightings, your tour will finish back at the front gates of South Brisbane Cemetery.

Boggo Road Gaol Ghost and Gallows Tour Logo and Images

Boggo Road Gaol Ghost and Gallows Tour

36889 - Brisbane QLD 4001

Visit the notorious Boggo Road Gaol on a 2 hour ghost tour. Hear historical ghost stories from prisoners and warders. Learn about the gaol’s history, gallows, executions as well as life and death on the inside. One of the most notorious Australian prisons of the 20th century, Boggo is haunted by its often violent past. Ghost stories from warders and inmates date back to the 1930′s – many had experiences they could not explain. This is one of Australia’s premier historical ghost tours. If ever a gaol was haunted, then Boggo Road Gaol would be…

Meet your ghost tour guide at the imposing front gates of Boggo Road Gaol in Dutton Park, just across the road from Dutton Park Police Station and Park Road Train Station.

Once issued with a torch, you shall step inside the huge Gatehouse of the prison. To add to the experience of the tour, torches are switched off during the stories, plunging you into the atmospheric darkness of the gaol.

As you walk through the darkened back track, circle and cell blocks, your guide will share stories of the ghosts that haunt Boggo Road Gaol and those who encountered them. Some stories are funny and some are downright chilling - all of them interesting.

Expect a leisurely walk over 2 hours, with frequent stops for photo opportunities and dramatic story telling - disabled access and seating is available. After an eerie evening of ghost stories and possibly some sightings, your tour will finish in the Gaol Shop where you will be given a complimentary book "The Ghosts of Boggo Road Gaol" by author Jack Sim and can ask the guide questions / purchase gifts and merchandise including books, keys, posters and T-shirts.
