Balloon Down Under

Palm Meadows Golf Resort, Gooding Drive, Carrara QLD 4211

We are the Gold Coast’s and Queensland’s longest operating balloon business and one of the oldest in Australia.

We fly over the Gold Coast area for a wonderful 1 hour balloon flight every morning at sunrise – weather permitting.

Your Balloon Down Under Experience begins just before sunrise.  Ballooning everywhere in Australia is always an early morning activity, because that is when the winds are at their most gentle.

Once aboard the wicker basket your magical flight begins. The launch is so gentle you will not even realise that you have left the ground. The peace and gentleness of ballooning will surprise you and the views are outstanding. Your pilot will point out all the Gold Coast landmarks and places of interest as the flight proceeds. Drifting gently over the Gold Coast landscape for one hour allows you ample time to take in the panoramic views of the Gold Coast from skimming over the tree tops to up to 2,000 feet high. Your pilot will point out all the points of interest and the landmarks seen from the balloon as he steers the balloon to its landing site. Steering the balloon is achieved by the pilot changing height, so as to use the varying wind speeda and direction found at varying heights. Your pilot can rotate the balloon during the flight so that everyone gets to see all the views.

Caves circuit, Lamington National Park

Lamington National Park, Binna Burra QLD 4211
Caves circuit, in the Binna Burra section of Lamington National Park, winds up through open forest and rainforest to emerge on the road near the Binna Burra Mountain Lodge road entrance. Pick up a copy of the self-guiding brochure produced by the Lamington Natural History Association for this circuit, and also the Lamington National Park Discovery Guide from the park's information centre. Take in the brilliant views into the Coomera Valley, the Darlington Range and rhyolite cliff line. Possibly the largest intact stand of hoop pine in Australia can be seen along the Darlington Range. As you pass through the Kweebani Caves, think back to a time when they sheltered the original inhabitants of this area—the Yugambeh Aboriginal kinship group. From the caves you’ll climb to the summit of Mount Roberts through rainforests of immense red cedars and other trees. White-throated treecreepers, members of one of the oldest groups of songbirds, are frequently seen on this circuit. Koalas are often seen in open forest areas along the walk. Take care when walking beside the bitumen road to return to the start of the circuit, especially on weekends when traffic is busy, or alternatively walk back along the circuit. This park is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, famed for its ongoing geological processes, evolutionary history, and diversity (especially of rare, threatened and endemic species).
