AMUSEMENT AND THEME PARKS CROWDY HEAD

Manning Point Beach commences on the southern side of the sandy 500 metre wide Manning River entrance. It extends south west, initially as a low sandy 2.5 kilometre long spit, then as a steep, coarse narrow beach for a total of 10 kilometres to the southern mouth of the river, called Farquhar Inlet. The riverfront town of Manning Point, with two caravan parks, is located south of the spit. Manning Point Beach is the only four wheel drive access point for the camping ground at Farquhar Park. All vehicles driving on Manning Point Beach need a beach permit issued by either Greater Taree City Council or Great Lakes Council.

Club Harrington (formerly Harrington Bowling Club) was established in the late 1950s. Situated on the banks of the Manning River, the club offers spectacular views of the river entrance and the Pacific Ocean. Besides being a lawn bowls club, the club host other social events like, bingo, trivia, raffles, members badge draws and fundraising community projects. All regular club services and facilities are available including bars, gaming machines, TAB and keno. Dine in a family friendly atmosphere at Steve's River Reflection restaurant which is open seven days for both lunch and dinner. Enjoy fine food with a spectacular view overlooking the water. Harrington Beach stretches from Harrington village to the picturesque fishing village of Crowdy Head, and is part of the Harrington Beach State Park. This quiet beach location between the two villages is ideal for relaxing strolls and fishing opportunities. Harrington break wall is a very popular spot for fishing, walking, and taking in the views of the ocean. There is a fish cleaning facility conveniently located at the beginning of the break wall. The Harrington Lagoon is located off the beach area; it is a safe swimming spot for families and is very popular during the warmer months. Car parking is available at the lagoon area off Crowdy Road. A rainforest walk through to Harrington Lagoon is accessible from Crowdy Street, with parking facilities. 4WD vehicle access to Harrington Beach is just north of the Harrington Beach Holiday Park. Vehicles on Beach Permits are available at Ritchies Bait and Tackle.

Harrington Beach State Park is situated on the New South Wales Mid North Coast and comprises lands surrounding and including the Manning River's northern entrance. The 431 hectare site stretches from Harrington to the picturesque fishing village of Crowdy Head. The foreshores of the coastal beaches and estuary provide an array of year round recreation and tourism opportunities. The State Park also includes a small littoral rainforest that is accessible to the public.

The beautiful area of Crowdy Head is located on a vast expanse of unspoilt beach which includes the North Beach and South Beach. The North Beach is a well protected beach, excellent for families. The Surf Lifesaving Club overlooks the beach and patrols operate during the summer months. There is a kiosk, cold outdoor shower and toilet facilities. Picnic area with barbecues and picnic tables are nearby. Four wheel drive beach access is available near the Surf Lifesaving Club. The South Beach is a quiet beach area ideal for relaxing strolls and, if the conditions are right, it is very popular spot for board riders. Visit nearby Crowdy Head Lighthouse for panoramic views of the coastline and the hinterland which includes the Three Brother Mountains (north, middle and south). There is four wheel drive access south of Crowdy Head.

Located 33 kilometres north-east of Taree on the mid north coast, is the historic Crowdy Head Lighthouse. This lighthouse was designed and erected between 1878 - 1879 as one of only five small lighthouses built on the NSW coast. The panoramic views from the lighthouse reserve are breathtaking. Looking north you can see beyond Diamond Head and the Three Brothers mountains (south, middle and north), which were named by Captain James Cook in 1770 as he sailed up the east coast. To the south you can see as far as Seal Rocks. This is a great spot for a bit of whale watching as Crowdy Head is amongst a number of spots on the north coast that has a great easterly position. The whales migrate north to warmer waters during May to July, and return to the rich southern feeding grounds in the Antarctic during August to October.

Crowdy Bay National Park offers an abundance of wildflowers, birds and animals, bushwalking, swimming and fishing in 8,022 hectares of coastal plains. There are long sweeping beaches north and south, extensive wetlands, rainforest pockets and coastal heath featuring beautiful wildflowers. Australian author Kylie Tennant spent time living and writing here, and her hut which was used as a writing retreat has been restored and maintained. Walking trails include the cliff walk, rock platforms and stony beaches and offer sections with eroding rock formations and towering rock spits. At low tide you can explore the rocks and pools below the cliffs. There's good fishing, bird watching and fascinating headland walks with abundant wildlife. Car-based and caravan camping is available at Diamond Head, Indian Head, Kylies Beach and Crowdy Gap Cultural Camp. Camping fees apply. Bring your own drinking water as it is not available within the park. Firewood sold on site.

Manning Point is located at the end of Manning Point Road, right at the northern entrance of the Manning River. It is bordered by the river on one side and ocean on the other. On the ocean side, long sandy beaches beckon swimmers and walkers, while the river side is a haven for boaties, oyster lovers, and fishermen. Manning Point's main street edges the river and the wooden jetties offer a perfect spot to cast a line. Visit the licensed restaurant, bowling club, or cafe which serves delicious coffee and light meals. There is four wheel drive access to the beach through Manning Point Reserve, but take care not to disturb the breeding area of the endangered little tern. This is the access point for Farquhar Park Camping ground also. Vehicle on beaches permits are required and are available at the Manning Point General Store....

Each New Year's Day the town of Harrington celebrates John Gollan Day with family friendly entertainment including carnival rides, live music, markets stalls, food stalls and a model train expo at 10am in the Harrington bowling club. The evening concludes with a spectacular fireworks display from 9pm....
