This exhibition presents a selection of works from a major gift from local collectors and philanthropists Jim Birkett and Roy Weatherhead. Birkett and Weatherhead are well known in the region for their commitment to the arts and their tireless enthusiasm for art education and support of artists. Their personal collection includes paintings, sculpture and textile works with a focus on contemporary Australian artists and works from South East Asia. As owners of a private gallery in Sydney, Birkett and Weatherhead supported emerging artists, with early works from aritsts such as Grace Burzese making up an important part of the collection. Other artists featured include Warwick Keen, Margaret Woodward, Isabel Davies and Graham Blondel. This gift greatly enhances the Shoalhaven City Art Collection, and they are delighted to share it now and into the future....

In this two day workshop ( join exhibiting artist Nicole Ison and learn how to create hand built ceramic spoons. Take inspiration from Nicole's beautiful works to generate ideas to design your own. On day one Nicole will work with you using stoneware clay to hand build ceramic spoons. You will explore mark making to decorate your pieces with man-made and natural tools creating textured surfaces into the wet clay. By day two the spoons will have dried to a stage called greenware. You will be able to apply colour and pattern using food safe underglazes. Nicole will take all the works to be kiln fired and then return them to the Gallery for you to pick up and take home for use as functional or decorative pieces of handmade pottery. JAM is the Junior company of AMTC (Albatross Musical Theatre Company) based in Nowra NSW. The cast of about eighty are aged between 10 and 15 years. In 2019, they will present Aladdin Junior based on the Disney film and adapted from the musical (Music: Alan Menken; Lyrics: Howard Ashman, Tim Rice, Chad Beguelin; Book: Chad Beguelin). It tells the story of Aladdin, a poor street urchin who has a chance meeting with an incognito Princess Jasmine in the marketplace of Agrabah. Princess Jasmine is under pressure to select a suitor from the range of eligible Princes to serve as the future Sultan, but she refuses to select a husband unless she loves him. Imprisoned by the evil Jafar, Aladdin discovers a magic lamp and enlists the assistance of the Genie to make an impression on Princess Jasmine. With wonderful songs, spectacular costumes and sets, and impressive special affects this talented cast of youngsters will make your heart sing and put a huge smile on your face....

An Unending Shadow is an exhibition of artworks by prominent Australian mother and daughter artists, Ann and Sophie Cape. Together they have made new artworks in response to their shared experiences of having a relative living with dementia and its impact on their day-to-day lives and artistic practices. Australia, like much of the developed world, has an ageing population and conditions like dementia and Alzheimers disease are becoming more widespread but still little talked about and discussed in public. As such this has been a personal journey for the artists who have created a series of challenging artworks on the theme. Together their artworks not only respond to the impact of dementia within their family, but shine a light on these health issues and bring them further into the public domain to encourage dialogue about their broader impacts within society....
