Day 2: Brisbane to Rainbow Beach

Stop At: Rainbow Beach, Rainbow Beach, Gympie Region, Fraser Coast, Queensland
You’ll be picked up by the Stray bus this morning and greeted by your friendly Stray Guide and travel crew. You’ll soon have your first opportunity to hop off in the upmarket resort town of Noosa, or continue on with the group to Rainbow Beach. Tomorrow you’ll begin your Fraser Island adventure (make sure you’ve booked in the dates in advance with Stray). Once you’ve checked-in, you’ll have a safety briefing for your Fraser Island 4WD trip.

Day 3: Rainbow Beach to Fraser Island

Day 4: Fraser Island

After breakfast we'll drive up to stunning Eli Creek, the largest freshwater creek on the East Coast of the Island, which carves its way through to the beach and pours 80 million litres of water a day into the Pacific Ocean. After spending some time here, we head up to the famous Maheno Shipwreck for photo ops and some history about this Fraser icon. After lunch and another stop or two, we head back to te camp for dinner and drinks.

Day 5: Fraser Island to Rainbow Beach

Today you’ll spend the morning walking through magical sand dunes and soaking up the sun on Fraser Island. You’ll return back to base in the early afternoon. This evening you can head out on a short walk up the sand dunes to watch a stunning sunset at Carlo Sand Blow.

Day 6: Rainbow Beach to Emu Park

After stopping briefly to pick up those who stayed in Noosa, you will depart from Cooroy on your first train journey of the trip. Kick back for a scenic train ride to Rockhampton, where you’ll meet the bus and your Stray Guide and head to your next Strademark destination - Emu Park. After getting settled in at the resort, you'll find out more about tomorrow's adventure to the stunning Great Keppel Island.

Day 7: Great Keppel Island and Overnight Train

Stop At: Great Keppel Island, Great Keppel Island, Queensland
This morning you head to a tropical paradise with your awesome local guide. Great Keppel Island is located on the southern of the Great Barrier Reef with untouched coral, turtles, reef fish and manta rays all straight off the beach. Relax or have a go at snorkeling or kayaking (both at extra cost) before exploring the island in search of the perfect white sand beach. Tonight, we’ll return to the mainland and gather together for dinner at Emu’s Beach Resort before we catch the overnight train to Airlie Beach.

Day 8: Airlie Beach

Stop At: Airlie Beach, Airlie Beach, Queensland
The train arrives into Prosperine early in the morning. Your Airlie-based Stray Guide will meet you off the train and accompany you on the bus into Airlie Beach. They’ll help you store your bags, and then grab breakfast (extra cost) and give you a brief orientation of the town to help you get your bearings. You’ll have the rest of your day free in Airlie Beach to do as you please. You can choose to join your guide for an easy rainforest hike. See panoramic views of the swirling Whitsundays from above and then head down a secluded beach for a splash.

Airlie Beach is the gateway to the famous Whitsunday Islands, another backpacker favourite, and that's where you'll be heading tomorrow.

Day 9: Airlie Beach to Whitsunday Islands

There’s no better day of the week for it - wake up early and head down to the marina in time for a 2-day, 1-night adventure through the breathtaking Whitsunday Islands. These picturesque islands are set in the Great Barrier Reef and are home to some of the world’s most pristine beaches. Get ready for an epic sailing adventure that includes the highlights of this incredible area and spending the night at sea.

Day 10: Whitsunday Islands to Airlie Beach

The exact order of activities will vary, but your Whitsunday sailing tour includes a visit to Whitehaven Beach, renowned for having some of the softest sand in the world, and Hill Inlet, where the shifting tides swirl the sand and water together in a dazzling effect. You'll also sail around the reef with various stops to get out for a swim and snorkel, allowing plenty of opportunities to see marine life along the way. At the end of the second day of sailing, you'll return to Airlie Beach to spend the night back on shore.

Day 11: Airlie Beach

You’ll have another free day in Airlie Beach to relax and explore at your leisure. Your Airlie Guide will have lots of ideas of what you can do. If you can’t get enough of the big blue, why not get some karma points and volunteer your time with Eco Barge Clean Seas – a non-profit organisation that often takes volunteers out on a barge to the bays and beaches of the Whitsunday region. You’ll help to collect rubbish washed up onto these beaches (of course with a side of sightseeing!). If the barge isn’t going out, you may be able to help with valuable sorting of the debris.

Day 12: Airlie Beach to Magnetic Island

You'll be up with the parakeets this morning with a medley of transport to catch today. Travelling by bus, train and ferry (oh my!) we arrive at our destination of Magnetic Island in the late morning. Nearly 50% of ‘Maggie Island’ is national parkland, and it's chock-full of amazing beaches and abundant wildlife. Your legendary local guide will fill you on the activities you can do around the island over the next couple of days.

Day 13: Magnetic Island

Join your guide today for a scenic walk. You’ll might head off the beaten track to beautiful Radical Bay beach for an ocean dip and amazing photo opportunities. Alternatively, your guide will take you up to the historic Forts Complex, where you’ll see incredible views over the island and ocean beyond. Whichever way you go, don’t forget to look up, as Maggie Island is one of the best places to see koalas in the wild!

We catch the ferry back to the mainland in the morning, and travel by train to Tully, arriving at lunch time. From here we embark on our Stray exclusive Rainforest Experience, travelling by bus into the heart of the stunning Tully Gorge National Park. We’ll cool off in a beautiful swimming hole this afternoon, before heading to our camp for a BBQ dinner and an evening sharing stories around the campfire.

Day 16: Rainforest Experience to Cairns (via Tully)

Start your day with an early breakfast followed by an interpretative walk through the forest, learning about the traditional indigenous usage of the land. In the afternoon, we return to Tully to jump on the train to our final destination, Cairns. We arrive by late afternoon, so you'll have time to get ready to celebrate the final night of your epic East Coast adventure. Overlooking the hinterland of Queensland's Sunshine Coast, the Glass House Mountains offer a great introduction to abseiling (aka rappelling) for those wishing to add a little adventure to their day. With a guide, work your way up to abseiling on a 131-foot (40-meter) cliff face of Mt. Ngungun in Glass House Mountains National Park. Equipment is provided, and your professional guide will put you at ease and help you to complete this mental and physical challenge.

Meet your guide in the parking lot at Mt. Ngungun to begin your abseiling tour. Collect your allocated safety equipment, and walk in to the first site, where you'll be taken through a safety introduction prior to your first abseil. Once everyone is familiar with the equipment, start your abseils; the final rappel of the day is usually a 40-meter drop down sheer cliffs, from which you will walk back to the meeting point with your group. Typically, you'll be back at the car park by 2:30pm.

The guide-to-participant ration is kept small to ensure you get the most out of your experience in the Glass House Mountains. Designed for anyone with a sense of adventure or a love of the outdoors, this activity gives you the opportunity to be challenged and soak up the natural environment of the eucalyptus forest. The Mt. Ngungun summit boasts a 360-degree view of the national park, including three other nearby mountains.

Your adventure begins with an 8am departure from Abel Point Marina at Airlie Beach. Munch on a light breakfast on board and get ready to cover around 90 nautical miles (160kms)!

We will first sail across the Whitsunday Passage to breathtaking Blue Pearl Bay on Hayman Island. Next we’ll pass through Hook Passage and speed away to beautiful Cataran Bay on Border Island. Then it’s time to head to the north-eastern side of Whitsunday Island to world-famous Whitehaven Beach, where we’ll take a guided bush walk up to the amazing Hill Inlet Lookout--don’t forget to bring your camera! From here we’ll head out to find a nice and protected anchorage site for a freshly prepared Aussie dinner and a night of fun!

Day 2: Sail Back to Airlie Beach via the Molle Islands (B/L)

After waking up to stunning natural beauty and a freshly made breakfast, it's time for more thrilling sailing back to Airlie Beach. We will pass along the western coast of Whitsunday Island, through Hook Passage and follow the eastern coast of Hook Island, passing the Molle Islands.

Rock climbing sessions are guided by qualified and experienced instructors. No experience is necessary as each session includes full instruction, a safety briefing and equipment. Participants must be at least 8 years of age and wear and use the safety equipment provided by Riverlife. Safety equipment includes a helmet, harness, rope and chalk.

DAY 1 - 10.6km

Arrive at our head office, for a short hiker briefing. The guide will then transfer the group to the first part of the walk. You will start the walk by hiking into Lake McKenzie, where you will break for lunch at the picnic area. Enjoy the stunning, beautiful white sanded beach and swim in the pristine freshwater perched lake. After lunch, you will then hike to the central rainforest area (Central Station).

Along the way you will stop off at the pristine Basin Lake where you can take a stop and have a refreshing swim, before hiking back to camp. Marvel at huge Satinay trees growing out of the pure sand in this rainforest wonderland. When you arrive back at Central Station walkers camp your guide will have set up your camp and be waiting for you with wine and cheese! The guide will prepare your yummy dinner, which you can enjoy before falling asleep under the stars!

DAY 2 - 9.6km

Wake up in the beautiful rainforest, after breakfast you will walk exploring the untouched, lush and tropical rainforest, before being picked up by your guide to start the next walk! The guide will drive you to the Eastern Beach, via Eurong township and the famous 75mile beach, where you will stop along the way to enjoy your lunch in the wilderness. You will then be dropped at the Lake Wabby entrance and walk into the lake, where you can relax in the deepest Lake on Fraser Island! Once finished, you will then do a short walk to the lookout point where you can enjoy a stunning view! You will then be driven back to Kingfisher Bay Resort, where you can relax and have a nice sunset drink before boarding the barge back to Hervey Bay!

Goomboorian is located between the town of Gympie and Rainbow Beach, in Queensland, Australia.  It also includes lunch at the popular 'Silky Oak Tea Gardens', who have a reputation for delicious home cooked meals in an iconic country surrounding.

Panorama Tour: 4.5 hours total duration; 1.5 hours of flying time.

The most comprehensive of all four tours, this half-day experience starts with a seaplane flight over Heart Reef, a heart-shaped coral reef that can only be appreciated from the air, before landing at Hardy Lagoon, where can go snorkeling and enjoy a glass-bottom boat tour. Then head to Whitehaven Beach for an hour of relaxation on this stretch of bright white sand. Day 2: Rainbow Beach to Emu Park

After stopping briefly to pick up those who stayed in Noosa, we depart from Cooroy on our first train journey of the trip. Kick back for a scenic train ride to Rockhampton, where we meet the bus and your Stray Guide to head to our next Strademark destination, Emu Park. While at Emu Park you’ll have the option to visit stunning Great Keppel Island, snorkel with turtles and hike to some secluded white sand beaches (extra cost); or you can choose to do your own thing!

Catch the ferry for a day of snorkeling or kayaking (extra cost) before exploring the island itself in search of the perfect white sand beach for a little afternoon rest and relaxation. Tonight, we’ll gather together for dinner at Emu’s Beach Resort before we catch our first overnight train to Airlie Beach.

Day 4: Airlie Beach

The train arrives in Prosperine early in the morning. Your Airlie-based Stray Guide will meet you at the train and accompany you on the bus into Airlie Beach. They'll help you store your bags, and then grab breakfast (extra cost) and give you a brief orientation of the town to help you get your bearings. You'll have the rest of your day free in Airlie Beach to do as you please. Airlie Beach is the gateway to the famous Whitsunday Islands, another backpacker favourite. Many people choose to hop off here and do a multi-day sailing trip, but it is also possible to do a day tour. You can also choose to join your guide for a hike in the rainforest to see amazing almost 360-degree views of Airlie and the Whitsunday Islands.

Day 5: Airlie Beach to Magnetic Island

You'll be up with the parakeets this morning with a medley of transport to catch today. Travelling by bus, train and ferry (oh my!) we arrive at our destination of Magnetic Island in the late morning. Nearly 50% of ‘Maggie Island’ is national park land, and it's chock-full of amazing beaches and abundant wildlife. Your legendary local guide will meet you at the train station and then join you on a scenic walk to either the beautiful Radical Bay beach or the historic Forts Complex for incredible views and amazing photo opportunities. Join in the group pizza dinner tonight (extra cost).

Day 6: Magnetic Island to Rainforest Experience

We catch the ferry back to the mainland in the morning, and travel by train to Tully, arriving at lunch time. From here you can join our Stray exclusive Rainforest Experience (additional cost) or continue on the train to Cairns. We’ll cool off in a beautiful swimming hole this afternoon, before heading to our camp for a BBQ dinner (included) and spend the evening sharing stories around the campfire.

This extended tour departs only on Wednesdays. Experience this 3-night 1770 Castaway Survivor remote island camping adventure! Enjoy a thrilling speed boat ride along the Queensland coastline before arriving on a secluded tropical island. Here your adventure begins as you try your hand at living like a survivor or a castaway as you live in a fully functional camp. Here you can go fishing, crabbing, kayaking, motor boats,explore caves, find oysters, sand boarding, explore this isolated island...or  just relax.  This unique Australian camping experience will be one you will never forget.

Before you take off on the most exhilarating experience of your life, attend a pre-trip briefing explaining what will happen on the island and go through the safety requirements while on tour. Food and drinks are not included, however for AUD15 you will get 3 delicious cooked evening meals (payable on departure).

After your briefing, you will be taken to the 1770 Marina to board your boat which will take you to a pristine beach where you will stay for 3 nights to live like a  castaway survivor on an island for adventure of a lifetime.

The camp is set up for you with tents, mattresses, solar lights, USB power, camp kitchen, esky and a toilet. A camp supervisor remains on site to ensure the smooth running of the camp however you are left to do as you please in this tropical paradise.

If you have chosen the 'Castaway' option you can choose to kayak, tractor tube, explore caves, find oysters, hike around untouched places and visit the natural wonders of Bustard Head, Pancake Creek or Jenny Lind Creek. Better still, you can just relax, swim, laze on the beach or enjoy the natural spa bath, the choice is yours.

If you have chosen the 'Survivor' option you can choose to kayak, explore caves, go fishing or crabbing with your local Aussie Bushman, sand board down 35m sand dunes into the water, zoom about in motorized boats, find oysters, explore the natural wonders of this isolated island or better still, just relax, lie back on the beach and do nothing!

After a hard day exploring or relaxing, what better way to end it by watching a gorgeous sunset of over the western side of the island whilst enjoying our delicious 'Castaway Survivor' campfire stew! Spend the evening gazing at the bright stars, or surrounded by your new friends around a campfire singing songs or playing campfire games.

The day begins with a scenic drive up to Springbrook National Park where we will embark on the incredible Natural Bridge Circuit, taking in the hinterland creek that cascades down through a breathtaking waterfall, disappearing into the Natural Bridge cave below. This walk is a comfortable, short circuit of about 1km, suiting explorers of all fitness levels. A unique & innovative walk, this track is structured to give visitors what can only be described as an exhilarating experience - a chance to observe life in the rainforest up close. Following a brief morning tea, we will also take in the lookouts along the Springbrook Scenic Rim, viewing waterfalls, mountains & the Gold Coast.

Take a break from the city and enjoy a leisurely stand up paddle board on the beautiful Enoggera Reservoir just 12km from the city. Surrounded by nature, you will have the opportunity to paddle at your own pace. All hires include safety equipment and a briefing prior to departure.

Meet our friendly staff along the waterfront at Walkabout Creek for check-in. Once check-in is completed, you will be fitted with a life jacket and given a short briefing including safety rules, an introduction to paddling and tips on where to go. We will help you on your paddle board and then you are off to explore the stunning Enoggera reservoir where you may encounter Australian wildlife, before returning back to the departure point. On return, our staff will help you out of the water and then you are free to head home or jump into the water for a swim.
