The Falls Drive is one of the region’s most popular drives. Leave the small township of Killarney and travel along a winding and lush green road to Spring Creek Road, where the best part of the journey really begins. The road climbs up the mountain, through bushland and rainforest, passing great spots to discover different waterfalls, enjoy a picnic and take in the beauty of the expansive valley below. At the top of the hill is iconic Queen Mary Falls and offers great walking and exploring, plenty of native wildlife, and birdlife aplenty. There is a safe walking track to do the circuit, or you can just view the falls from the top lookout. Queen Mary Falls flows into the nearby Condamine River where it begins at The Head and flows on to the Murray-Darling - Australia’s longest river system. Carr’s Lookout offers breathtaking views over the Head Valley to Mt Superbus, the Scenic Rim and Tambourine Mountain. Information identifies the mountains and tells the story of a plane crash in 1955 on Mt Superbus. This tourist route can form part of a wonderful circle drive taking in Cunningham’s Gap, Warwick, Killarney and Boonah. 4×4 vehicles may choose to return to Warwick via Cambanoora Gorge via the 14 River Crossings of the Condamine River (weather and water levels permitting). Other travellers will enjoy a leisurely drive down the winding road of Spring Creek Road which meets up with the Scenic Rim township of Boonah. Please note, the section of the road between Carrs Lookout and Cambanoora Gorge is quite steep and narrow so is not suitable for large vehicles or caravans....

The drive celebrates the first mail route awarded to Cobb & Co in Queensland when, on January 1, 1866 the mail service commenced from Brisbane to Ipswich. Passengers and mail heading further west were taken from Ipswich to Grandchester (Queensland's oldest railway station) by train and then by another Cobb & Co coach for the rest of the journey to Toowoomba. The drive follows the railway line and the original Cobb & Co route between Ipswich and Gatton. Just as Cobb & Co's passengers needed occasional stops during their journey, so do modern-day travellers. So, along the Cobb & Co Tourist Drive, three convenient locations in Rosewood, Forest Hill and Gatton have been designated Staging Posts. All Staging Posts are situated where services, such as public toilets and the availability of food and drinks, are accessible seven days a week....

Travelling west from Warwick along the Cunningham Highway, the Sprint Route begins at Sandy Creek Road, eight kilometres on the right from Warwick Central Business District. This was once the main road to Goondiwindi and used by the bullock drivers. The route passes through the districts of Allan, Leslie and Cunningham (named after the explorers) and then through the once thriving gold rush townships of Pratten and Leyburn and finally onto Karara. The Drive passes the iconic Sandy Creek Raceway which holds one of the most significant motoring events in Queensland. Next door is The Darling Downs Hotel - known to locals as the Sandy Creek Pub - and is the oldest continually licensed premises in Queensland. With rich historical stories, the route offers an interesting passage in time should you wish to stop at the sites - Memorial Park in Cunningham, the town of Pratten where Gold was first discovered in the area (and fossicking can be done with permits), Old Leyburn Station, Liberator Park and other points of interest for history lovers. The Sprint Route is an easy, leafy drive and travels past some quiet places for picnics, or even for a spot of fishing in Leslie Reserve - on the banks of the Sandy Creek in particular. You will witness quintessential Australian views and stopping at the Darling Downs Hotel is highly recommended for a great country meal experience....

This 62 kilometre journey starts at Goomburra Road, which is a turnoff the New England highway, just two minutes south of the small township of Allora, or 10 minutes north of Warwick. It is a gentle, meandering road which takes in the Goomburra Valley, past mountains and lush greenery, typical country scenery depicting dairy farms - large and small, and then across the Cunningham Highway to join on to Freestone Road. The quiet back road of Freestone Road offers a vista of some of the most fertile land in the district and a patchwork of oats, sorghum, wheat and sunflowers. As you travel through the township of Freestone, historic buildings, houses and a church are sights to slow down to see, before the route journeys back into Warwick, via Jack Smith Gully Road....

The majority of the roads are sealed which means it's an adventure suitable for cars as well as four wheel drives however there are a few rough patches along the way so be sure to check conditions before you start. Wild Horse Mountain Lookout can be found 30 kilometres north of Brisbane, just off the Bruce Highway and is well worth checking out. You'll have to walk a little to get to the lookout but you won't be disappointed. Explore Caloundra, Maroochydore and Noosa - where you can find great food and beautiful beaches. Drive to Boreen Point where you can hire a kayak or windsurf to enjoy Lake Cootharaba. From Boreen Point turn off to Elanda Point and enjoy a picturesque drive to Wolvi, then north east towards Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach. On your way to the river-port city of Maryborough you'll have a chance to stop at some quaint fishing villages. Then cruise north to Hervey Bay. It's then just a short drive to River Heads to catch the ferry to the unique World Heritage listed Fraser Island....

The first leg of the trip takes you to Bluff Rock (locally known as Iron Pot) where you can troll just 10 minutes from the marina. Trolling is the favoured fishing method in The Keppel Bay area, but bait fishing is great for reef fish. June to September is the best time for mackerel. Since the introduction of the Net Free Fishing Zone, the school mackerel are beginning to return to The Keppel Bay as well. If you’re planning a day out fishing this area, always check the weather first. Anything over 15 knots isn’t fishable and there are off shore conditions to consider such as tides and currents. You're not guaranteed to catch a fish following this trail alone. Great fishermen know that you should also do your own research beforehand. Bring your family along and while they spend their day on their own little beach, do some serious guilt-free fishing!...

Side tour: Take the turn-off at Mingela and drive 40 kilometres to Ravenswood, a true ghost town, which had 48 hotels and 5,000 residents at its peak until it was deserted in 1912. It is now a heritage listed working mining town with old mullock heaps, tall chimneys and nineteenth century pubs and other buildings. View operations at the open cut mine from the lookout. Continue on from here to the Burdekin Falls Dam which holds four times as much water as Sydney Harbour. It's a gorgeous place for another picnic, fish or camp for a genuine outback Australian experience....
